Solutia Bestows 2006 Doc Awards

The program is named after Dr. Robert F. “Doc” Docherty.

VOA Associates, Chicago, Ill for R.R. Donnelley Headquarters, Chicago.On November 29, carpet fiber manufacturer Solutia revealed the 2006 winners of its annual Doc Awards program, recognizing outstanding achievement in contract interior design and product design. To participate, entries must incorporate Solutia’s Ultron nylon 6,6 fiber.

A total of 140 projects and 30 carpet products came in for the awards program. Projects were judged based on color, space, form, function, and materials; and products were judged based on originality of design, overall aesthetics, pricing and usability in the contract environment

The program is named after Dr. Robert F. “Doc” Docherty, one of the first industry professionals to reach out to the interior design community.

Legat Architects, Chicago, for Morton College Library, Cicero, Ill.“This year’s award winners have enhanced the creative spirit of the design industry by shaping the way people work, move and experience the environment around them,” says Marianne Cone, director of marketing for Solutia. “We are proud to have the family of Ultron fiber products associated with these design professionals.”

The project winners are:

• DMJM Rottet, Houston, for Royal Bank of Scotland, Houston
• Johnson Fain, Los Angeles, for Fuller Theological Seminary Student
Services Center, Pasadena, California
• Legat Architects, Chicago, for Morton College Library, Cicero, Illinois
• VOA Associates, Chicago, Ill for R.R. Donnelley Headquarters, Chicago

The product design winners are:

• Bentley Prince Street, City of Industry, Calif., for Even Keel
• Constantine Commercial, Dalton, Ga., for Ribbons
• J&J/Invision, Dalton, for Brilliant & Bright Idea
• Karastan Contract, Kennesaw, Ga., for Fluidity
