Green House

Kelly Beamon, Jen DeRose, and Craig Kellogg -- Interior Design, 4/1/2007 12:00:00 AM

New York's Kips Bay Decorator Show House has been running for 35 years. But this is the first one when a designer is promoting the "greenness" of her room. No, that's not mossy walls or emerald curtains. Vital Design principal Cheryl Terrace plans to demonstrate that sustainable, handmade, and/or locally sourced elements can create an environment that's both attainable and polished. "Few projects are 100 percent green," she says. "What I do is just thoughtful." As for the beaux arts mansion as a whole, 15 of the show's 19 designers are using Benjamin Moore & Co.'s low-VOC Aura acrylic paint. April 24–May 22; 718-893-8600; kipsbay.org.
