On March 8, Danish designer Poul Henningsen will be the topic of a lecture at the Santa Monica Library in Santa Monica, California. PH Alias Poul Henningsen—The Genius of Danish Design: A biographical look into the life of Poul Henningsen will be presented by Erik Steffensen, professor at the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen.
The lecture is held in conjunction with the exhibit "Nordic LAttitudes," which will showcase Nordic furniture and lighting design through March 18.
Best known for his lighting designs, Henningsen was also a writer, filmmaker, and an architect. He is credited for helping to propel Scandinavian design into the international eye and has designed over 100 light fixtures—production continues on many of them. He was born in Ordrup, Denmark, and trained as an architect at the Danish College of Technology in Copenhagen and the Technical School at Frederiksberg.
The Nordic LAttitudes series is a collaborative effort between the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library and Moore Ruble Yudell Architects and Planners.
The lecture will begin at 6:30pm in the library´s Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium, on 601 Santa Monica Boulevard. Drinks and appetizers will be served in the courtyard.
