Fashion Fusion

With clothing designers describing their work as "architectural" and architects borrowing from the pages of Vogue, it's no wonder that the New York AIA's Center for Architecture has organized "The Fashion of Architecture: Constructing the Architecture of Fashion." The show assembles photos and actual garments as well as special installations that are, strictly speaking, neither fashion nor architecture but deliberately straddle the line.

The mavericks and visionaries rule, with architecture's Shigeru Ban and Winka Dubbeldam sharing the spotlight with fashion's Yeohlee Teng and Hussein Chalayan. J. Meejin Yoon of Howeler + Yoon Architecture contributes a dress that's based on the spatial-mathematical loop called the Möbius strip; fashion designer Michiko Koshino presents an inflatable combination skirt-coatdress; David Adjaye of Adjaye/Associates and Zowie Broach and Brian Kirkby from the fashion label Boudicca collaborated on a dress made of pine rods.
