What do UNESCO, the United Nations's cultural arm, and Felissimo, the New York design store, have in common? Design 21: Social Design Network, a 1,000-member Web-based community of socially conscious individuals addressing issues through smart design solutions. The jointly launched site offers calls for competition entries, a members' project gallery, and discussions. . .all for free. "This isn't elitist. It's fundamental," says director Haruko Smith, who attended the October launch party with the likes of Thom Filicia.
