Rome is Where the Art is

The American Academy in Rome recently announced the winners of this year's prestigious Rome Prize, which provides fellowships for American artists and scholars in various fields to reside and work at the academy for terms of six months to two years. Recipients in the field of architecture are partners Alexander Kitchin and Evelyn Tickle of building;studio, a Charlottesville, VA-based practice, and Kelly D. Powell, an adjunct faculty member of the University of Detroit's Mercy School of Architecture. William H. Fain, Jr., a partner at the Los Angeles architecture firm Johnson Fain Partners, received a prize in the design arts category. The two award winners in the field of landscape architecture are Andrew Than-Son Cao, co-founder of the Glass Garden in Los Angeles, and Peter Osler of Ann Arbor.
