A fundraising gala will take place the opening night.

Work by both emerging and established artists will draw collectors to Los Angeles January 25-27. The 17th annual Art LA, the New Los Angeles International Contemporary Art Fair has 64 international galleries signed on for the 2008 event, to be held in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

Hailing from three continents, participating galleries will offer a comprehensive look at trend-setting cities such as Berlin, London, Mexico City, New York, Paris, and Tokyo. But the spotlight is on the Los Angeles area--more than half of galleries are based in the city. The list includes 1301PE, Ace Gallery, and Sandroni Rey in Los Angeles; Blow de la Barra and Hotel in London; Taka Ishii Gallery in Tokyo; and Wallspace in New York.

Art LA will kick off January 24 with a fundraising gala, including a patron preview and an opening preview. Proceeds will benefit the UCLA Hammer Museum's Hammer Projects series, which highlights new talent.

"This is an exciting moment in Los Angeles as the city has become an important and internationally recognized center for art making," says Tim Fleming, director of ART LA. "More and more prominent contemporary art galleries and visual artists are based in Los Angeles, and the quality of work being produced in L.A. continues to garner international attention."

The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium is located at 1855 Main Street. Tickets are $15 for a one-day pass and $25 for a three-day pass. The event is organized by Artfairs.
