Cultural Leaders

Staff -- Interior Design, 11/1/2002 12:00:00 AM

The American Federation of Arts, which develops traveling exhibitions, also presents an annual award to artists, museum directors, and philanthropists in recognition of their contributions to the arts community. At the organization's fall gala in New York, this year's AFA Cultural Leadership Awards went to Philadelphia Museum of Art director Anne d'Harnoncourt and to artist-architect Maya Lin. An art historian and longtime administrator, D'Harnoncourt was honored for the critically acclaimed exhibits mounted at the Philadelphia Museum of Art under her leadership. Lin received the AFA's commendation for her sculptural and architectural projects—the best known being, of course, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which she designed at the tender age of 21.
