IMM Cologne is not the only fair in Germany this month--in Frankfurt, textile enthusiasts were at annual home and contract textile tradeshow Heimtextil.
The 2008 show marked the debut of the Young Contract Creations Awards, recognizing hot young talent. "We were very positively surprised by the innovative, but at the same time highly practical designs of the students" says Olaf Schmidt, vice president Textile Fairs of Messe Frankfurt and jury member. The grand prize went to the multifunctional biomorphic Personalità project, a seating unit by Philipp Goreth, who is studying interior architecture in the design faculty of the Coburg University of Applied Sciences. Runner-up prizes were awarded to Robert Korn from the University of Creative Arts in Hamburg for the Room Maid seating unit, and Sebastian Herkner of the University of Design in Offenbach for the Strap stool. For more information on winners visit Messe Frankfurt.
Some 86,000 visitors from 125 countries attended the fair, which was held at the Messe Frankfurt exhibition center, January 9-12. Of the over 2,800 exhibitors from over 60 countries, 84 percent came from outside Germany.
The next Heimtexil will be held January 14-17, 2009.
