Awards will be bestowed in three categories: restaurants, cafés/bars and lounges/nightclubs.

Who is behind the latest crop of posh eateries from Los Angeles? In October, we'll find out: The Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Architects is now accepting entries to its 4th annual Restaurant Design Awards. Registration is due August 22 and submissions are due September 19.

Individuals and practices are invited to submit projects located in Los Angeles, or, entries from outside of Los Angeles can be submitted by an individual or firm that is based in Los Angeles. Submissions are welcome from restaurant owners, architects, and designers.

Awards will be bestowed in three categories: restaurants, cafés/bars and lounges/nightclubs and the program includes Jury Award Winners and People's Choice Award Winners, the latter compiled from votes submitted on the AIA/LA web site.

"Dining out in Los Angeles is like going to the theater," says AIA/LA associate director
Carlo Caccavale. "One expects a show."

The jury is composed of:

  • Joachim B. Splichal, chef and founder of the Patina Restaurant Group

  • David Montalba, founder and principal of Montalba Architects

  • Michael Hodgson, partner and creative director of Ph.D

  • Margot Dougherty, senior writer and food critic with Los Angeles Magazine

An awards ceremony will be held on October 16. The entry form is available at AIA/LA.
