Putting a fresh spin on the trend of pop-up retail stores, collaborative of designers, architects, and contractors is setting up a temporary studio called the PopUp Design Clinic in a vacant storefront in New York’s West Village to provide free design consultations between December 5 to 13.
The team of architects, interior designers, and contractors behind the consultancy consists of Poonam Khanna, Ed Gavagan, Jonathan Baker, Brenda Bello, and John Lundstrom, a group responsible for projects including Vanity Fair editor in chief Graydon Carter’s New York hotspots Waverly Inn and the Monkey Bar, and event planning for the magazine’s annual Oscar and Cannes Film Festival extravaganzas.
The group says the idea behind the PopUp Design Clinic, located at 447 Hudson Steet at the northwest corner of Morton Street, is to bring the high-end design expertise typically reserved for exclusive clients to a wider audience. From 2 to 8pm the group will tackle anything from picking paint colors to complex construction questions—and even check out apartments with potential renters and buyers.
Not everything will be gratis though: a customizable “menu” of fixed fee design services will be available at discounted rates that range from $250 for a diagnostic walk-thru and space survey to a $10,000 pre-construction package that includes drawings, specifications, preliminary estimates, and a construction schedule.

I tried to e-mail these folks using the address posted in the New York Times Article.
The Times posted the wrong address - so now a potential paying customer can not reach designers who are looking for clients!

I worked with Poonam today and cannot believe my good fortune. In retrospect, I wouldn't attempt to perform surgery if I didn't go to medical school, yet I was trying to design a room without any training. She brought structure and a practiced hand to my all-over-the-place ideas. This is an amazing service.
