A prize to commemorate Italian architect and designer Vico Magistretti, whose work has been included in the collections of Artemide, Cassina, Kartell, and other brands, has been developed by Italian furniture manufacturer De Padova. The company, who now produces some of Magistretti’s designs, wishes to use the contest to spread the ideas of the architect’s design philosophy—one of simplicity and grace.
The competition is open to young designers all over the world. The charge: To develop a project in the spirit of Magistretti, who once said, “Simplicity is an essential quality of good design, and it is one of the most complicated things in life, because you have to take away, take away.”
An international jury made up of experts in culture, architecture, design, and fashion will choose the three best projects, and awards will then be presented in September at the De Padova showroom in Milan.
Official rules for the competition will be announced on April 1, to coincide with the International Furniture Fair in Milan. Entry applications are due June 30.
We would love your feedback!
