AIA, COTE Announce 2009 Top Ten Green Projects
AIA and COTE will honor the projects at the AIA 2009 National Convention and Design Exposition.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and its Committee on the Environment (COTE) recently announced their picks for this year’s top 10 examples of sustainable architecture and green design solutions.
The 2009 COTE Top Ten Green Projects program singles out projects that integrate architecture, natural systems, and technology, which improve comfort for building occupants and reduce environmental impacts. Projects were judged against a rigorous set of criteria and demonstrated design innovation while positively contributing to their communities.
“In architecture, performance and aesthetics are inextricably linked. The COTE Top Ten is one of the very few awards that evaluate performance and design,” said jury members. “Other awards and organizations look strictly at performance without care for how a building looks.”
This year’s esteemed professional jury included Michelle Addington of Yale School of Architecture; Brandy Brooks of Community Design Resource Center of Boston; William Leddy of Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects; Nadav Malin of BuildingGreen LLC; Kim Shinn of LTLC Engineering for Architecture; and James Timberlake of Kieran Timberlake Associates LLP. AIA and COTE will honor the selected projects next week at the AIA 2009 National Convention and Design Exposition in San Francisco.
