Mannington Commercial Is the Hard Surface Sustainability Leader

from Mannington Commercial -- Interior Design, 11/16/2009 12:00:00 AM

Mannington CommercialLooking for environmental leadership in hard surface floorcovering? Innovation, great design and a synergy between carpet and hard surface products have put Mannington Commercial out front.

2009 saw Mannington launch the industry’s first 25% postconsumer VCT, through a program that will keep millions of pounds of VCT out of America’s landfills, every year. By investing in recycling technology, Mannington’s Premium Tile is not only 25% postconsumer VCT, it also incorporates reclaimed drywall into the product. An Environmentally Preferable Product, offered at zero cost increase to customers.

VCT n2 VCTThis VCT n2 VCT program is only one example of the company’s commitment to offer environmentally smart choices that work for hard surface flooring. Mannington is also the only manufacturer to be awarded Gold for all hard surface products to the NSF-332-2007 standard.

And this year, Mannington also announced a new Premium Rubber Flooring and wall base line. With a superior formulation of thermoset rubber, the line’s vinyl alternative floor tiles are developed for flexibility and performance, preserving their color under heavy traffic while enabling easier installation, cleaning and maintenance.

Through their LOOP takeback program, Mannington reclaims carpet rile originally made by any manufacturer; for projects over 2,500 yards, this is at no charge. The reclaimed waste is made into Infinity®RE modular carpet backing, which contains 30% recycled content, including 10% postconsumer reclaimed carpet. Infinity®RE is NSF certified as an Environmentally Preferable Product.

But Mannington looks beyond reclamation of carpet for carpet backing, also using the synergy between carpet and hard surface. Relay™RE is beautiful six-foot resilient sheet that is 35% recycled content – including 20% postconsumer carpet from LOOP, which is ground up and combined with other components. Relay™RE has been awarded both NSF Gold and FloorScore certification for indoor air quality.

And RelayRE is manufactured at Mannington’s New Jersey facilities, where the company has installed more than two acres of solar photovoltaic arrays. The largest solar array in use in the floorcovering industry by more than seven times over, it generates clean electricity that helps to power the site.

Mannington invests to serve design and sustainability, creating products that are beautiful and smart. They innovate to improve closed loop recycling, reduce waste streams and reuse waste materials.

These are sustainable choices that work—keeping flooring out of landfill, using waste as materials and rewriting industry environmental standards. http://manningtoncommercial.com.
