Designers, are you ready to see your name in lights? Your work broadcast throughout homes across the U.S.? HGTV is on the hunt for a few good interior designers and architects who think they have what it takes to host their own television series. The DIY-shelter network is currently casting for season five of its design-based reality show Design Star.
Most designers are known for going against the grain, but casting directors want to know what makes entrants stand out above the rest. The team will no doubt be keeping an eye out for strong industry expertise, a personality that pops on camera, and a passion for design. Once cast, finalists will compete in design-based challenges with one to two designers being eliminated each week. Contestants will be narrowed until the winner is announced in the final episode of the series, upon which, the winner will become the host of their own design show on HGTV.

Kicking the new season up a notch, the network has signed Mark Burnett, executive producer of reality competitions such as Survivor and The Apprentice, and his production team to produce the series’ fifth iteration. With Burnett on board, the casting and production for the series are expected to move quickly.
“We are thrilled to have our first program with HGTV and the Scripps family of networks,” said Burnett. “We look forward to rolling up our sleeves and making HGTV Design Star even bigger, better, and more exciting than it has been in seasons past.”
Designers interested in entering can send initial submissions (including name, age, hometown, phone number, and headshot) as soon as possible to David Polanzak at dpo.casting@gmail.com.
