Time's up!

Cindy Allen -- Interior Design, 11/1/2002 12:00:00 AM

A hazelnut-vanilla translation of the relationship between editors and the Gregorian calendar might qualify the ménage as "especially challenging." Straight talkers would probably choose "fear" and "loathing" to describe the writer's feelings for Father Time. Brooklyn gutter-mouths could doubtless offer some more colorful descriptives, but we'll save those for another day. In truth, anyone involved in putting out a magazine spends a sizable part of the year bullying sources, pestering photographers, harassing printers—and ultimately one another—to rush the pages out the door. Then this gloriously, chronically stressed-out crew faces the real black beast in publishing. After all the hurry comes the wait, the weeks before a great story finally hits the stands.

We slay the beast every time you open a new issue—and this month we really couldn't wait a minute longer to show the world the latest crop of designers on the rise. Celebrating our victory, November brings you a year's worth of stories on spaces by the finest, freshest talent in interior design and architecture. To list a few: Michael Heltzer's boatyard-factory in Chicago, Milan's underwater world view by Fabio Novembre, Christine Birkle's felted workshop-apartment in Berlin, Deutsch's leaner, meaner, faster, smarter Los Angeles agency by Frederic Schwartz, and Cho Slade Architecture's skintight fashion hot spot in South Korea. And, right on deadline, we let you in on the very latest news on Studios Architecture, a global design flagship that's making waves.

On press (without a minute to spare), Cindy Allen
