Vroom!

edited by Sheila Kim -- Interior Design, 2/1/2004 12:00:00 AM

Canvas totes and calfskin handbags are staples of the leather-goods brand Coach. But internal-combustion engines? The company has actually been dabbling in automotive design since 1996, furnishing special-edition interiors for Lexus. Now, to celebrate the arrival of Coach Eyewear, the company is collaborating with Vespa to introduce a collection of seven scooters.

Coach president and executive creative director Reed Krakoff designed the Vespas to complement not only the sporty eyeglasses but also the colors and patterns of such handbag lines as Hamptons Stripe, Poppy Floral, and Signature. Think boldly striped paint and seats of suede patchwork or crocodile.

A benefit auction of several Coach Vespas is in the works.
