The Art of the Sell

edited by Sheila Kim -- Interior Design, 4/1/2004 12:00:00 AM

Got an eye for fashion? Then check out "Fashioning Fiction in Photography Since 1990" at New York's Museum of Modern Art, Queens. The exhibition's 95 luscious, evocative images—culled from advertisements, glossy magazines, and other print media—were taken by both fine artists and commercial shutterbugs: Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin, Steven Meisel, Ellen Von Unwerth, et al. Shown together, the work traces contemporary influences and dominant trends, notably a fixation on cinematic narrative that elevates clothing well above the realm of mere consumer objects. April 16–June 28; 212-708-9431; moma.org.
