Fiber Enriched

Staff -- Interior Design, 7/1/2001 12:00:00 AM

The 1950s saw the emergence of Fiber Arts as a unique genre, no longer relegated to the world of the merely functional. Through August, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) will showcase the richness and innovation of fiber creations in The Art of Contemporary Fiber: Highlights from the Carol Straus Collection. The sculptural objects—made from a range of materials including wood, paper, bamboo, metal, and fabric—display the surprising diversity of the medium. The show features artists from around the globe, including John McQueen and Ed Rossbach, two founding members of the movement. Adrian Saxe's Teapot (1989) shown above.

MFAH: 1001 Bissonnet; (713) 639-7540.
