Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum has revealed the seven jury members for its prestigious National Design Awards, which honor the year's most outstanding contributions from the design world. The annual awards celebration will be held at the museum October 18.

The 2006 jury members are Interior Design editor-in-chief Cindy Allen; Yves Béhar, founder of San Francisco-based design firm fuseproject; Michael Bierut, partner at New York graphic design firm Pentagram; Roger Mandle, president of the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, R.I; Enrique Norten, principal at New York- and Mexico-based architecture firm TEN Arquitectos; Janet Rosenberg, principal and founder of Canadian landscape architecture firm Janet Rosenberg + Associates; and Stefano Tonchi, style editor for The New York Times Magazine. First Lady Laura Bush is the 2006 Honorary Patron.

This year, in conjunction with the awards, the Cooper-Hewitt will premier National Design Week, a week-long exploration and celebration of achievements in design featuring public programming events.

"Now in its seventh year, the National Design Awards continue to advance Cooper-Hewitt's mission to broaden public understanding of the role of design in our lives," says Paul Warwick Thompson, director of the museum.
