Forms + Surfaces

Known for transforming everything from elevator cabs to space dividers, Forms + Surfaces looks up. The Contour lighting series is the result. The fixtures are constructed from Aero, a corrugated aluminum material also available in sheets for a variety of coordinating applications. Visit site.

Mlle Y

Paris-based Japanese artist Rié Yagura finds new uses for found objects such as headlights, hair-drier stands, movie-studio spotlights, and roller skates—but her designs are so dignified that they hardly feel slapdash or ad hoc.  At Intérieurs. Visit site.

Foscarini

Designed by Ferruccio Laviani, Orbital was originally a multicolored polymorph. For the lamp's 10th anniversary, a limited-edition piece in frosted-silver glass has been introduced. At North American Light Spectrum,  Danbury, CT 06810; 203-791-0348.

Light

Jos Devriendt's Up & Down light takes a classic shade and adds flexibility, resulting in a lamp that converts from task light to up-light effortlessly. Simple lines finished in black anodized aluminum make for a fashionable chameleon. Visit site.

Artemide

The ultracool Talo series combines modernity and sensuality, thanks to a great set of curves. The aluminum fixtures, available in white or silver gray, feature polycarbonate diffusers in suspension or wall-mounted models. Visit site.

Vitra

We've almost had our fill of mod madness and Verner Panton. Almost. We couldn't keep from spotlighting the Moon lamp, which has recently been reissued. Its 10 metal-ring blinds increase in size and are mounted on mobile bearings for light modulation. Visit site.

Yamagiwa

A lighting fixture needn't be a chandelier to make a statement. Tokujin Yoshioka's ToFU table lamp in acrylic and aluminum is about as contemporary as it gets. Available in two heights, 81/2 and 12 inches. Visit site.

Terzani

Combining fine lines with industrial aesthetics, Jean François Crochet's Bobino 64 is constructed from a transparent acrylic ring and satin-glass diffuser. Visit site.
