ASID Announces 2005 Design Award Honorees

With the exception of one--the awards will be bestowed in Nashville during the ASID’s annual design conference.

This week, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) revealed the results of its 2005 design awards. Honorees were named in five categories: Designer of Distinction, Design for Humanity, Educator of Distinction, Patron's Prize and Product Prize (corporate and individual). At the last minute, the jury also bestowed a Special Citation.

The ASID will bestow the Design for Humanity award the awards during Interiors '06: The ASID Conference on Design. The remaining recipients will be recognized at the Society's annual awards gala, Celebration: The ASID Design Awards in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, March 18.
 
Barbara Barry, principal of her namesake interior design firm, based in Los Angeles, is this year’s Designer of Distinction. Barry has created signature collections for Ann Sacks Tile and Stone, Baker Furniture, Bloomingdales, Boyd Lighting Company, HBF, and Wedgwood, among others.

Patricia Moore, president of Moore Design Associates, is the 2005 Design for Humanity honoree. Moore traveled through more than 100 U.S. and Canadian cities for three years disguised as a woman in her 80's, in order to study how senior citizens are treated. She then published her experience in Disguised: A True Story. Moore was also selected to address attendees with the INTERIORS 06 opening keynote, "Design Revolution."

The Rural Studio at Auburn University's School of Architecture in Auburn, Alabama has been honored with the 2005 ASID Educator of Distinction award and the former chief architect of the U.S. General Services Administration’s Public Building Service department, Edward A. Feiner is the recipient of the 2005 ASID Patron's Prize. The 2005 ASID Product Prize goes to furniture manufacturer Humanscale Corporation (corporate) and textile designer Suzanne Tick (individual). Christopher Alexander, author of A Pattern Language, received a Special Citation.
