He might not have invented the internet on his own but former United States Vice-President Al Gore will stand alone when he gives the opening keynote for the USGBC's annual Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, being held from November 11 to 13 in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Earth in the Balance and An Inconvenient Truth impresario will kick-off the an evening on November 11 at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, which will also feature a musical performance by nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow and a speech by USGBC president, CEO & founding chair, Rick Fedrizzi.
Academy Award and Nobel Prize winner joins an illustrious list of Greenbuild keynoters, including his old boss Bill Clinton and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Gore is leading active post-government life as the cofounder and chairman of Generation Investment Management and media company Current TV, the employer of the two journalists he and Clinton helped free from a North Korean jail. He is also on the board of directors of Apple and is a senior advisor to Google.
"Al Gore's impressive career and bipartisan outreach have helped elevate global climate change to the main street public consciousness," says Fedrizzi. "The role buildings play in our lives, our health, the economy and the global environment—including being responsible for 39 percent of the carbon emitted in the United States—means the built environment is a tremendous opportunity for us to make real change, and vice-president Gore's keynote address will be an inspiration to the Greenbuild community to make 2010 yet another banner year for green building innovation and growth.
