Samples from Mohawk Brands: All Sustainable

Courtesy of an upgrade, the new digital program offers 5,600 pattern and color combinations.

Tricycle must be doing something right. In 2000, the sustainable design company was enlisted to create digital samples for carpet manufacturer Lees, a division of the Mohawk Group. Last week, the manufacturer announced a collaboration which expands the partnership across all Mohawk Commercial brands--including Karastan Contract, Mohawk Commercial, Durkan Commercial, Merit, Bigelow, and Mohawk Aviation.

The samples, available within 24 hours of request, offer architects and designers a highly accurate way to choose and predict carpet options. This year, the company's trademarked digital program got an upgrade--Accelerated Design System 4.O--and a web tool, developed by Lees and Tricycle, designed to expand design flexibility and creativity. The program enables designers to choose from 5,600 pattern and color combinations, manage personal project folders, and simulate custom samples into room scenes. Tricycle’s sustainable program is dedicated to reducing the amount of oil, energy, and water used in the design process, as well as landfill waste unnecessarily generated by sampling. The paper print samples ordered through Lees’ NeoCon Gold award winning Thought Patterns require zero oil, 95 percent less water and energy to produce than a physically manufactured sample, and are designed to be 100 percent recyclable into paper products.

Says Allen Parker, vice president of custom development for the Mohawk Group: “Internally we realize significantly increased integration of our design groups among brands, bringing the strengths of each brand into every Mohawk commercial product. Externally, we are expanding and enabling all of Mohawk’s custom programs to deliver what architects and interior designers want--fast, accurate samples that free them to explore design options and select the floorcovering they want, without long wait times."
