Get a Room

edited by Sheila Kim -- Interior Design, 4/1/2004 12:00:00 AM

Looking for a way to escape the crowds at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York? Take a break from the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, and check into Downtown, an off-site event at the legendary Chelsea Hotel. Innovative manufacturers from as far afield as Germany (Veruso Wallpaper) and down under (Mud Australia) are showcasing products including lighting, accessories, seating, and rugs—in addition to entire retrofitted hotel suites.

Joining the manufacturers, Interior Design is revealing the winners of the annual Future Furniture competition, spotlighting the work of emerging architects and designers. And recent graduates from the Netherlands's Design Academy Eindhoven are mounting "Improvvisare New York," a vignette of found objects that explores the theme of experimentation.
