Does the length of the red carpet determine how long the annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game runs? Maybe.

On July 15, baseball legends including Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra and Willie Mays walked one of the longest red carpets ever during the All-Star Game Red Carpet Parade. They then went on to play the longest game ever -- a 4-hour and 50 minute affair.

Stretching 18 blocks along Six Avenue in New York, the 95,000-square-foot carpet was created by carpet manufacturer Bentley Prince Street. Despite its length, it is also billed as one of the greenest red carpets ever made. Through independent certifier Scientific Certification Systems, it has earned Sustainable Choice Gold certification and it is fabricated from 100 percent recycled fiber through production using 100 percent renewable electrical energy.

"None of this carpet will ever wind up in a landfill," says Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. "After the event, all 45,000 pounds of carpet will be recycled into new carpet through our ReEntry 2.0 reclamation program."

In addition, Bentley Prince Street saved 6,300 pounds of petroleum-based fiber and 162,000 gallons of water with sustainable manufacturing processes and purchased carbon offsets to reduce climate impact.
