Finalists were selected based on energy-efficiency, sustainable manufacturing processes, and originality.

From February 28-March 7, the New York Design Center (NYDC) will glow with energy-efficient lighting conceived by design students from the Pratt Institute. Organized in memory of contemporary lighting designer George Kovacs, the exhibit features the 30 finalists from the private college's inaugural George Kovacs Lighting Competition.

Designs including table and floor lamps must use energy-efficient light sources and incorporate environmentally-conscious manufacturing techniques. Three designers will be awarded based on originality, creativity, and use of sustainable materials during an opening celebration on February 28, held from 5:30pm-7:30pm

"The New York Design Center is proud to host a competition that celebrates a man who brought much innovation to the contemporary lighting industry," says James Druckman, president and CEO of the NYDC. "This unique competition allows Pratt students the opportunity to create new designs with guidance from some of the top names in the lighting industry."

Sponsored by the NYDC; the Minka Group, manufacturer and distributor of George Kovacs lighting; and Kovacs-Wesner Design Group, the exhibit will be on view in the David E. Harden Conference Center. The NYDC is located at 200 Lexington Avenue.
