AIA Chicago recognized the city's top design talent last week at the 2008 Design Excellence Awards acknowledging 11 firms for distinction in interior architecture. The chapter presented the coveted awards at a ceremony that drew approximately 700 architects, contractors, and clients.

"The 2008 Design Excellence Award winners include an eclectic mix of innovative, intricate, sustainable, and forward-thinking projects," said Rik Master, AIA Chicago's president. "The incredible body of work [recognized] underscores the fact that Chicago is home to some of the most talented and visionary architects practicing in the world today."

This year's competition garnered 379 entries, and a jury of peers, including top architects from around the country, selected the finalists. Winning projects include architecture for office, residential, libraries, restaurants, and more, and span the local, national, and international arenas. A total of 42 awards were distributed honoring the Illinois-based firms for outstanding work in four separate categories: distinguished building, interior architecture, unbuilt design, and divine detail.
