Great IDEAs

From swim fins to plane interiors to multimedia events, new ground was broken by this year's Industrial Design Excellence Awards, sponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America and BusinessWeek. For the first time ever, the call for entries solicited participants from around the globe, so the 17-person panel of IDSA members faced the daunting task of judging more than 340 entries from 25 countries.
The entries revealed a few marked trends: the utilization of environmentally friendly materials and processes, space-efficient home-office products, and playful aesthetics. IDEA winners included Samsung, Smart Design, IDEO, and Apple Computer, all of which secured multiple awards. They'll be bestowed officially at the IDSA National Conference in October, during a black-tie gala at Frank Gehry's Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
We would love your feedback!
