Los Angeles to Host Greenbuild 2007

Los Angeles has been on the forefront of several green initiatives.

Greenbuild 2006 just wrapped up, but plans are already underway for the next edition of the annual green building conference and expo, sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council. The 2007 event, with a web site now up and running, will take place October 17-19 in the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Why Los Angeles? "Not only is L.A. renowned for its culture and entertainment, but it's also gaining significant recognition for its leadership in green building in their community,” says Peter Templeton, the USGBC’s vice president of education and research.

Recently, the local government has been on the forefront of several green initiatives. In 2002, the Los Angeles City Council passed a law requiring LEED certification for all public works construction projects larger than 7,500 gross square feet; the city extended this to all building projects funded by the city in 2003. Currently, the city is home to 59 LEED-registered projects and seven LEED-certified projects, including the Platinum-rated Lake View Terrace Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library. The USGBC is now soliciting submissions for Greenbuild 2007 sessions, due January 12, 2007.
