On November 7, the Illuminating Engineering Society of New York will commemorate the life of lighting designer Sylvan Shemitz during an evening event at New York's Center for Architecture. Shemitz--or Sy, as his friends called him--died July 5 at the age of 82 while sailing in Long Island Sound.
Honorary emcee Paul Marantz and guests will serve tribute to Shemitz's achievements--among them, New York's Grand Central Terminal, United Airlines Terminal at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. Founder and CEO of architectural lighting manufacturer Sylvan R. Shemitz Designs, Shemitz developed several innovative patents, among them Tambient, a task and ambient office lighting system.
"We are proud and honored to be celebrating the life and achievements of such a great innovator in our industry," says Bonny Ann Whitehouse, IESNY President.
The event will run from 5:30pm to 8pm. The Center for Architecture is located at 536 La Guardia Place.
We would love your feedback!
