Splash of Cologne

If the economy is in a state of distress, then certainly no one told the furniture manufacturers that exhibited a wide range of innovative new forms in Cologne. Here is a sampling of what was available at the Köln Messe.

Komplot: The Non chair, designed by Boris Berlin and Poul Christiansen for Källemo, is made of rubber with built-in spring bands. It can be used both indoors and out. Available through Moss, 146 Greene Street, New York, NY 10002.

E15: Designers Florian Asche and Philipp Mainzer founded the company in London, naming it after the city's historic Hackney quarter. Fasem: Edge, from designer Stefano Gallizioli, is offered as a stacking, arm, or lounge chair. Each has a chrome or painted steel frame and an upholstered seat and back. Available through DDC, 181 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016.

Lloyd Loom: First introduced last year in prototype, Ross Lovegrove's Loom chair has been refined for this year's market.
