ASID Reveals 2006 Design Award Winners

An awards ceremony was held in conjunction with Interiors 07: The ASID Conference on Design.

The American Society of Interior Designers has announced the recipients of its 2006 Design Awards. Winners—including Interior Design eco editor Penny Bonda—are honored in five categories: Designer of Distinction, Design for Humanity, Educator of Distinction, Patron’s Prize and Product Prize (corporate and individual). A Special Citation was also awarded.

A special awards ceremony, Celebration: The ASID Design Awards, held in conjunction with Interiors 07: The ASID Conference on Design, honored winners on Saturday, March 17, at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco. During the ceremony, the 2006 ASID Fellows were also announced.

The winners are:

Designer of Distinction
Penny Bonda, Interior Design eco editor, chair of the LEED for Commercial Interiors Committee

Design for Humanity
Robin Hood’s L!brary Initiative, a partnership to address literacy by the Robin Hood Foundation and the New York City Department of Education

Educator of Distinction
Janine Benyus, author of Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature

Patron’s Prize
The U.S. Green Building Council, coalition of leaders in the building industry dedicated to sustainability.

Product Prize (corporate)
Textile manufacturer Maharam, Industry Partner of ASID

Product Prize (individual)
Designer Vladimir Kagan

Special Citation
Founder of John Hutton International, designer John Hutton, who passed away in August 2006 For more information about winners visit ASID (pdf).
