In Milan, Larger Digs for Euroluce

Designs on view are conceived by the likes of Karim Rashid, Marco Piva, Massimo Iosa Ghini, and Sandro Santantonio.

Salone Internazionale del Mobile (i Saloni), April 18-23, is around the corner, and international attendees are packing their bags for six action packed days of contemporary furniture design. Lighting connoisseurs will be at Euroluce, held concurrently with i Saloni. This year, the biennial lighting fair, now in its 24th year, will debut at the new Rho Exhibition Space, which boasts 30 percent more space when compared to the 2005 venue.

Also new this year, Euroluce is all encompassing. The fair is now open to all types of light sources—domestic lighting, engineering lighting, street lighting, and more. More than 500 companies will showcase their wares over nearly 540,000 square feet of exhibition space. New designs on view are conceived by the likes of Karim Rashid, Marco Piva, Massimo Iosa Ghini, and Sandro Santantonio, among others.

As in previous years, a local lighting event will complement the fair. Conceived by German lighting designer Herbert Cybulska, "Tales of Light" will tap the mediaeval landmark Loggia dei Mercanti as backdrop. Playing on colors and intensity, Cybulska's installation will be a lighting timeline, from the naked flame to gas lighting, to electric lighting up to the high-tech lighting of the future. The event is produced in collaboration with the Professional Lighting Designers’ Association, ELDA+, and sponsored by the City Council of Milan – Culture.

Attendees include architects, planners, interior decorators, lighting designers, facility managers, contract managers, specification buyers, wholesalers, specialist retailers, and representatives from the contract sector.
