ASID Seeks Student Design Projects
The Viking Range Corporation will sponsor a design 'charette.'

The South Central Chapter of the ASID-- Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas--is holding its Student and Professional Gathering on January 28 in Greenwood, Mississippi. The Chapter has invited students from 13 local colleges and universities to participate in 10 competitions. In addition, both students and professionals may compete in a design 'charette,' sponsored by the Viking Corporation.
The 10 student categories are creative, portfolio, commercial design under 5,000 square feet, commercial design 5,000 square feet and over, residential design under 5000 square feet, residential design 5000 square feet and over, hospitality design, product design, hand-drawn perspective rendering, and computer generated perspective rendering. The competitions--not available to graduate students--are open to all students majoring in interior design at a two to four year accredited college or university. Images of the winning entries and the contestant's identity may be used for publicity.
Entries must be submitted the morning of registration, Saturday January 28. A student award ceremony will take place at 3:30pm; students must be present to accept the award in person, or the award with be forfeited. Two entries, $3 each, can be submitted to each category. A winner and the first runner-up with receive a cash prize and certificate of recognition and publication in Blueprints, the ASID South Central Newsletter. An honorable mention and a students’ choice award will also be bestowed.
For the design 'charette,' students and professionals are challenged to create a kitchen for a young professional couple, using Viking Range products. Registration for this competition must be received by January 20. On the day of the 'charette,' each participant will be handed a floor plan to scale and two wall elevations. Prizes including Viking appliances for professionals and monetary awards for students.
The Student and Professional Gathering will be held at Staplcotn, 214 West Market Street, Greenwood, Mississippi. Complete entry requirements and forms are available online.
