The City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska is looking for a public architecture team to build its new State Capitol Building and is is making a Request for Qualifications of Lead Designers and Design Firms interested in contracting for the project. The design team will be selected through a competition.
The architecture-engineering team selection will be completed in three stages. In Stage I, interested participants will submit portfolios that establish the design capabilities of the lead designer and the design firm. A nine-member jury will then evaluate the submissions and establish a shortlist with a maximum of eight firms to participate in the next stage.
In Stage II, the short-listed firms will be asked to submit more detailed information indicating each member of the design team, including sub-consultants, and must present two site evaluation and design idea boards at a scheduled in-person interview. The jury will then narrow down its selection to a maximum of four firms, which will proceed to the next stage.
In Stage III, the remaining teams will be further evaluated in the anonymous Design Concepts competition for which an honorarium will be paid.
Lead Designers or Design Firms must register on the competition Web site in order to participate in the selection process.
A pre-submittal meeting will be held on November 16, 2004, at 2 p.m. Alaska time in the Assembly Chambers at 155 South Seward Street, Juneau, Alaska. A guided visit of the city will follow.
