Haworth Opens Green D.C. Showroom

Many of the Haworth products on display are constructed of sustainable materials.

What’s the latest trend for office furniture manufacturer Haworth? LEED Gold certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council. The firm’s newest showroom in Washington, D.C, will be the third facility to earn the sustainable certification.

For the design, Haworth partnered with Perkins & Will, Eva Maddox Branded Environments, and Turner Construction. The 20,000-square-foot green space is carved out of the historical Terrell Place. Interiors are a juxtaposition of traditional materials, such as wood, glass and marble, and modern architectural accents. Furnishings consist of Haworth products, many sporting rapidly renewable resources such as wheatboard and recycled content, and most Greenguard certified. Casegoods and systems wood, for example, are fabricated from locally sourced materials (to ensure minimal energy consumption) and are Forest Stewardship Council certified.

To allow the showroom to be easily reconfigured, the design team incorporated Haworth adaptable interior architecture elements, including raised access floors, moveable walls, energy efficient lighting, user-controlled HVAC and “plug and play” power and data cabling.

“The new Washington, D.C. space represents our continuing commitment to sustainable design and will join our Chicago and Los Angeles showrooms as a Haworth LEED Gold certified showroom,” says Franco Bianchi, Haworth president and CEO.
