For the ninth consecutive year, the opening night preview gala for SOFA New York 2006: The International Expositions of Sculpture Objects & Functional Art will benefit the Museum of Arts & Design (MAD). The event takes place from 5-10pm on Wednesday, May 31, at New York's Seventh Regiment Armory. SOFA New York runs June 1-4.

The gala will include a private viewing of SOFA’s more than 1,000 art objects, which bridge the fine and decorative arts. This year will mark the most international SOFA ever, according to press material, with wares from 10 countries including the United Kingdom, Denmark, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Japan, and Argentina, and 59 participating international galleries and dealers. In a celebration of its 50th year, MAD will present a special anniversary exhibit in conjunction with SOFA New York, entitled "Jubilee! 50 years on 53rd Street." Masterworks from the museum's permanent collection will be selected from each decade since 1956, the year the museum opened. Featured artists include Roy Lichtenstein, Dale Chihuly, Cindy Sherman, and Frank Gehry. The Seventh Regiment Armory is located at 643 Park Avenue at 67th Street.
