Architecture for Humanity Seeks Funds to Rebuild Myanmar

The nonprofit will help rebuild sustainable clinics, schools, and community centers.

Communities in Myanmar are still reeling from the major cyclone that tore through the country on Saturday, May 3. Reports suggest at least 22,000 people are dead -- and that number could climb to 50,000. Architecture for Humanity is one of the first to step in to offer aid. The nonprofit organization is currently seeking financial contributions to support a major long-term community-led rebuilding initiative.

The contributions will be used to help rebuild critical infrastructure such as sustainable clinics, schools, and community centers. Architecture for Humanity, according an official release, offers long-term technical expertise when it is needed most during the reconstruction phase.

Even small donations can make a difference: $15,000 supports a design team for six months to a year; $50,000 builds a transitional school, which also allows parents to return to work; and $150,000 builds a community complex offering facilities such as health clinics, daycare centers, jobs training centers, and government offices. Nearly all of the funds go directly to the communities: Architecture for Humanity states less than eight percent of donations go towards administration.
