Thom Mayne Designs Cersaie 2008 Poster

Mayne is the ninth celebrated architect or designer to design a Cersaie poster, following notables including Toyo Ito and Antonio Citterio.

Thom Mayne will focus his Pritzker Prize-winning talents on a different medium this year as he designs the poster for Cersaie, the international ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings fair, taking place September 30-October 4 in Bologna, Italy.

The principal of the Morphosis architecture firm is the ninth celebrated architect or designer to have a go at the Cersaie poster, and he joins some noteworthy company: Toyo Ito, Antonio Citterio, Alessandro Mendini, and Ettore Sottsass, to name a few. But Mayne, certainly, is no slouch, having claimed countless honors, from the National Design Award for Architecture to the Rome Prize. He was also among the founding faculty of the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in 1972, the same year he founded Morphosis in Santa Monica.

Show organizers point to Mayne's participation as an example of the continued importance of Cersaie, now in its 26th year. Last year’s edition was a three-way record breaker, clocking in at nearly 92,000 visitors, some 1,100 exhibitors and over 600 journalists. This year’s fair, organized by Edi.Cer in cooperation with Promos, takes place at the Exhibition Centre in Bologna.
