Mannington Commercial Teams up with Sustainable Firm

Tricycle will provide digitally-accurate samples.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 1/19/2006 12:00:00 AM

To help meet a corporate goal for waste reduction, flooring manufacturer Mannington Commercial has joined forces with sustainable design company Tricycle. Tricycle will contribute to the manufacturer’s product development process as well as support a sample alternative program.

The move will help Mannington strive towards its goal to be a net user of waste—meaning, outputting less waste than it takes in. So far, products including ArtCraft modular carpet tile, made of pre-consumer (post-industrial) yarn; Relay resilient sheet flooring made from carpet tile frame scrap; and Infinity RE backing, with high recycled content from carpet tile frame scrap and resilient scrap, meet this criteria.

The 90-year-old company will utilize Tricycle's Apso Jet Set, a product development suite and prototyping engine which offers product designers the ability to collaborate, archive, view, and prototype carpet products with a minimal waste of resources.

The partnership also includes Tricycle SIM samples, select digital running line and custom carpet patterns which can be received with 24 hours. The samples--which landed a NeoCon Gold--are color accurate and show yarn and tufting machine effects. Architects and designers can also receive scale prints and digitally installed room scenes, helpful for early pattern and color choices.

"Mannington is pleased to partner with Tricycle and know that they will be a tremendous resource as we continue to aggressively reinvigorate our product offerings on the carpet side. Their expertise matched with our current emphasis will truly strengthen our end results," says Jack Ganley, Mannington Commercial president.

Mannington Commercial is the only U.S. manufacturer producing both soft and hard surface flooring products for the contract market.
