L.A. Eats

Stomachs grumbled during voting for the AIA/LA's second annual Restaurant Design Awards. The finalists—six in the restaurant category and three for café/bar/lounge—were selected by a jury composed of Belzberg Architects's Hagy Belzberg, AdamsMorioka partner Sean Adams, Bon Appetit senior editor Heather John, and myself.
Firms serving up the tastiest restaurant designs are Richard Meier & Partners Architects (Cut), Frederick Fisher and Partners (Houston's), Philippe Starck Network with House & Robertson Architects (Katsuya), John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects (Lucky Devil's), Nicholas.Budd.Dutton (Opaline), and Graft (Stack). The first four are in Los Angeles, the latter in Las Vegas.
On top in café/bar/lounge are Sprinkles Cupcakes by Andrea Lenardin Madden, Westfield Century City Dining Terrace by Rios Clementi Hale Studios, and the (Wide) Band Nomadic Café, Griffin Enright Architects's NeoCon West installation.
This year's winners were decided by members of the public, voting online. Results were not available at press time.
We would love your feedback!
