Wall Coverings

-- Interior Design, 10/31/2009 12:00:00 AM

Wolf Gordon Mirror Mylar

Always ahead of the pack when it comes to innovation in commercial wall covering, this 42-year-old manufacturer goes back to its beginnings with the launch of Mirror Mylar for the hospitality market. Also available as upholstery, the dramatic 54-inch-wide panels are made from vinyl with non-woven polyester backing and are offered in 11 metallic colorways, all with a glossy sheen reminiscent of the foiled surfaces of the '60s and '70s. 800-347-0550; wolf-gordon.com. circle 436

Colour & Design Samar

Made from Ecore, a Greenguard-certified alternative substrate that is lightweight, breathable, and recyclable, Samar is designed to mimic the look and feel of natural grass cloth. The softly textured, 54-inch-wide panels are printed with water-based inks and offered in 12 colorways, including Moss, Titian, Capri, and a range of gray and brown neutrals. 866-556-9255; colouranddesign.com. circle 431

Designtex 23 Skiddo and Cat's Pajama's

Boasting a durability equal to vinyl and the ability to help earn LEED credits, 23 Skidoo and Cat's Pajamas belong to this company's microfiber-polyester Ecore collection. Offered in seven colorways including Copperfield and Minuet, 23 Skidoo references New York's 23rd Street with subtle tone-on-tone graphics. Cat's Pajamas mimics embossed linen and comes in 15 colorways, including Almond and Solitude. All panels are either 52 or 54 inches wide and have a slight metallic sheen. 800-221-1540; designtex.com. circle 435

F. Schumacher & Co.

The Matthew Patrick Smyth Wallcovering—Stripes collection marks Smyth's second collaboration with this manufacturer, this time for a collection of five elegant wall coverings: Gabrielle Stripe, Beekman Stripe, Lorraine Stripe, Lansdown Strié Stripe, and Morgan Stripe. All in silk, the panels are 27 inches wide with patterns adapted from the classical detailing on English porcelain plates. Gabrielle Stripe and Morgan Stripe come in five colorways each; select from four colorways for Beekman Stripe, Lorraine Stripe, and Lansdown Strié Stripe. 212-213-7978; fschumacher.com. circle 432

Maya Romanoff Meditations

Understated grains and quiet embossing distinguish the Print & Texture collection of four, 51-inch-wide vinyl patterns with non-woven polyester backing. Nottingham Stripe comes in three colorways, including Winchester, while Quad's interwoven squares can be ordered in bronze, white, or eight other colorways. The subtlest of them all, Thai Silk comes in seven colorways including Jasper; for Rangoon Silk choose from Sesame or 11 other colorways. 800-227-8053; innovationsusa.com. circle 433

Innovations in Wallcoverings

The luxurious texture and shimmer of Meditations wallpaper may look glamorous, but it's also a feel-good product: Production of the handmade lokta paper employs Nepalese artisans, requires minimal energy use, and offers a portion of profits to Aid to Artisans. Embellished with mica flecks, it comes in nine colorways and measures 36 inches wide. 800-933-6292; mayaromanoff.com. circle 434
