Bentley Prince Street Products are Carbon Neutral

The firm purchased carbon offsets to eliminate environmental impact.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 2/7/2008 12:00:00 AM

Bentley Prince Street has hit a major environmental milestone: All of the carpet manufacturer's broadloom and carpet tile products are third-party certified to emit net zero greenhouse gases.

The initiative, which began as the Cool Carpet program, is part of Bentley Prince Street's campaign to reach Mission Zero by the year 2020. The certification ensures all broadloom and carpet tile products are carbon neutral through the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System during the entire product life cycle.

To earn the certification, the firm used Life Cycle analysis to measure the CO2 emissions in raw materials, manufacture, transport, use and maintenance, and end-of-life disposition. To offset emissions, the firm purchases carbon credits that satisfy third-party criteria for quality and credibility.

"Climate change is a significant issue for all of us, with consequences already evident across the globe," says Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. "Making all our products climate neutral is just one way we’re working to address this issue, and make it easy for our customers to participate in balancing the GHG emissions of their projects and join in the fight against global warming."
