Like Mother, Like Son

Mark McMenamin -- Interior Design, 1/1/2010 12:00:00 AM

Playing pick-up sticks was never this intriguing. For her Furry pendant fixture, Julie Phillips of the Phillips Collection specified strands of renewable rattan handwoven by artisans in Thailand into a cluster 29 inches across, then wired it for an incandescent or a compact-fluorescent bulb. (Sconce and table lamp also available.) Her son, Jason Phillips, favors the chunkier medium of a reclaimed Thai wood, chamcha, for his Stick wall decor, composed of 1,000 individual rods nailed together by the same craftspeople. It measures 66 inches wide by 43 high. 336-882-7400; phillipscollection.com. circle 402
