edited by Sheila Kim -- Interior Design, 5/1/2003 12:00:00 AM

Modern-minded designers know Isamu Noguchi best for his lamps, followed by his sculpture. His skill in ceramics finally receives its due, thanks to an exhibition at the Smithsonian's Arthur M. Sackler Gallery in Washington, D.C. "Isamu Noguchi and Modern Japanese Ceramics" showcases the artist's figural and abstract sculpture, vessels, and tableware. They appear alongside pieces by Kaneshige Toyo, Yagi Kazuo, Kitaoji Rosanjin, and other Japanese ceramists that Noguchi associated with. May 3–September 7; 202-357-2700; asia.si.edu.
