Staff -- Interior Design, 5/31/2006 12:00:00 AM

Versa

Stripes of varying widths coalesce to create a serene beauty worthy of the island destination from which Biscayne takes its name. The durable Type II vinyl offering is available in 10 colorways inspired by crystal-clear waters, seashells, and exotic foliage. Islands are timeless, but these colors feel very modern. 4700 Robards Lane, Louisville, KY 40218; 502-458-1502; versawallcovering.com. circle 443

Textile Arts

A 1976 design is reborn as Finnish powerhouse Marimekko reintroduces Kioto, an intricate graphic print with an Oriental feel by Maija Isola. The updated version is colored by Isola's daughter, Kristina. Available in cotton or in poly-vinyl-finished oilcloth. The former comes in five colorways (multi, red-on-white, blue-on-white, blue-lavender, and orange-yellow); the latter just in multi. P.O. Box 3151, Sag Harbor, NY 11963; 888-343-7285; txtlart.com. circle 447

This vinyl wall covering looks naturally polished for something that's 40 percent recycled. Chimayo, in color Tierra Bayita, recreates textures found in the banana paper that inspired it. Made with water-based inks, the product can also contribute points to LEED certification in the areas of New Construction and Commercial Interiors. 3875 Embassy Parkway, Fairlawn, OH 44333; 800-275-3789; rjfinternational.com. circle 444

Phillip Jeffries

This manufacturer expands his popular raffia collection with the vivid Madagascar. Hand-woven with fabric backing, it comes in 10 bright colors named for island playgrounds: Antigua, Cozumel, Aruba, Turks & Caicos, and St. Martin. With an earth-friendly stain-repellent finish, what's not to love? 311 Route 46, Fairfield, NJ 07004; 800-576-5455; phillipjeffries.com. circle 445

Paul Montgomery

The Asian-styled Warrenton Garden Scenic wallpaper may have been inspired by the flora and fauna of Virginia, but it was created in China. The scene is hand-painted on 20 paper-backed silk panels, each 36 inches wide by 6, 8, 10, or 12 feet high, or on pieced paper. It is available in standard or custom colors and sizes. P.O. Box 976, Churchville, VA 24421; 540-337-6600; paulmontgomery.com. circle 446

Weitzner

Deluge evokes a rainstorm refracted through a watercolor prism. The fluid, animated, and light-reflective surface is rendered in silk and cotton-jacquard-woven moiré backed by paper. The glistening effect is magnified by the three metallic color options in matte finishes: pewter, antique gold, or opaline. P.O. Box 231, New York, NY 10551; 914-665-0800; weitznerlimited.com. circle 448

Set

Bring on the Bling takes its cues from—what else?—the scintillating patterns seen in jewelry and beaded glass. The paper-backed Type II vinyl product comes in two scales: The larger tweaks traditional damask with a vertical stripe; the smaller displays a classic geometric diamond motif. The 54-inch-wide wall covering comes in 12 colorways, including brown, blue, and lavender. 1825 MacArthur Boulevard, Atlanta, GA 30318; 800-620-6922; setwalls.com. circle 449

Maharam

Pinpoint Vine combines a printed vine with an abstracted botanic motif expressed in raised dots. Pinpoint Stripe does the same, with a graphic stripe. Each pattern comes in five pale neutrals: white, blue, yellow, green, and gray. This Type II vinyl wall covering is 52 inches wide. 251 Park Avenue South, New York, NY 10010; 800-645-3943; maharam.com. circle 452

John Boyd

This British manufacturer keeps alive the centuries-old tradition of weaving horsehair, using a process that dates back to 1837. Now it's updating the palette in its Paso range—which sports a horizontal stripe—with nine new colors in varying shades of pink and chartreuse. It can also be used for upholstery, lamp shades, and even blinds. Higher Flax Mills, Torbay Road, Castle Cary, Somerset BA77DY, U.K.; 44-196-335-0451; johnboydtextiles.co.uk. circle 451

Stark

The Alexander Beauchamp collection boasts 10 refined designs, including Tilia and Cosmos. Inspired by traditional English patterns, some of these 201/2-inch-wide papers have a shimmery effect, whether in a print that looks like pebbled leather, or in a stylized Art Deco–like flower pattern. Tilia comes in four colors; Cosmos in five. 979 Third Avenue, Suite 1002, New York, NY 10022; 212-752-9000; starkcarpet.com. circle 450

Yangki

Bring the warm, gauzy light of the Mediterranean indoors with Rhodes, a texture for walls by designer Sondra Alexander. To create the rich, almost marble-like look, layers of natural colors are whitewashed over a non-woven fiber ground. The 30-inch-wide wall covering is offered in six colorways, including Sunswept, Ochre, and Concrete. 1026 Masonic Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94117; 415-626-5009; yangki.com. circle 453

Osborne & Little

Mingling European and Asian influences, the Adara collection of contemporary printed linens and linen-blends features paisleys and exotic blooms, particularly Japanese hydrangeas. Note the lovely, delicately detailed trees in Mandara, which measures 201/2 inches wide and comes on a paper backing in seven colorways: teal/gold and gold/silver with aqua, pink, linen, white, black, and chocolate. 90 Commerce Road, Stamford, CT 06902; 203-359-1500; osborneandlittle.com. circle 454

Farrow & Ball

Nostalgia for old English patterns continues to inspire, as evidenced by this company's latest two-color print wallpaper. The Ringwold collection is based on an early-18th-century silk pattern, with stylized sprig and berries. It has a 35-inch repeat and is available in 48 color combinations, including a line of new colorways. 979 Third Avenue, Suite 1519, New York, NY 10022; 888-511-1121; farrow-ball.com. circle 457

Twenty2

Ride the large-scale-wallpaper trend with West Vine, a sophisticated graphic botanical pattern from designers Kyra and Robertson Hartnett. The hand-screened paper is printed with water-based inks, and measures 27 inches wide. It's true: Big is beautiful. 68 Montague Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201; 888-222-3036; twenty2.net. circle 455

Innovations

With Mulberry, this manufacturer expands its eco-friendly Innvironments collection. The organic yet luminous wall covering is made from fibers of mulberry bark laminated to metal leaf in random patterns. Made from recyclable materials, the product contains water-based inks and no harmful solvents. The 38-inch-wide Mulberry is available in six colors, including a taupe called Silverweed and a silver named Mallow. 150 Varick Street, New York, NY 10013; 212-807-6300; innovationsusa.com. circle 456
