In honor of this historical moment, the Design Trust for Public Space and cultural partners present the Taxi 07 project, encompassing a series of events including an exhibit at the 2007 New York International Auto Show.

Officially declared by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, New York Taxi week will run April 6-15—but the festivities kicked off April 4th, when the Empire State Building glowed a commemorative yellow.

Javits Convention Center inner roadway, directly outside the center at 11th Avenue and 35th Street. Items on display, conceived by automotive, design, and academic partners, include innovative taxi prototypes and taxi-related installations and displays, all addressing sustainability, accessibility, and good design. The free event is open to the public.

Throughout the month, New York cinema IFC Center will focus on the taxi’s role in popular culture via a series of films, including "Speedy," "Taxi Driver," "Midnight," "Mona Lisa," "Taxi!," "99 River Street," and "Night on Earth."

Visit Taxi 07 for more information.

The Design Trust for Public Space is dedicated to improving public areas in New York, including parks, plazas, streets, and public buildings.
