Richard Hywel Evans Architecture & DesignSwimming with the fishes has a new meaning at this underwater spa off the coast of Sri Lanka. Richard Hywel Evans's $180,000 renovation allows guests to be just inches away from the Indian Ocean's sea life—in an appropriately aqueous 700-square-foot setting. Evans transformed a boxy perimeter with waves of molded glass-reinforced drywall. Curved sliding doors, ebony-veneered with stainless-steel banding, close off posttreatment daybeds raised on a dais, while similar folding doors divide the two treatment rooms. On the floor, blue resin-bonded pebble tiles suggest the ocean floor. Across the ceiling, stretched vinyl glows in soft pastels, produced by concealed fluorescents.
