Off the Grid

Edited by Sheila Kim -- Interior Design, 7/1/2002 12:00:00 AM

Although best known for his geometric compositions featuring blocks of primary color, Piet Mondrian started his career in a representational vein, painting romantic landscapes rooted in the pictorial traditions of his native Netherlands. The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth looks back on the artist's early work in "Mondrian, 1892-1914: The Path to Abstraction." The only U.S. venue for this landmark exhibition, the Kimbell will feature over 100 paintings and drawings that chart the 20th-century master's evolution. August 18–December 8; 817-332-8451; www.kimbellart.org.
